Women With Financial Courage with Hilary Hendershott

Obstructive beliefs about money were dissolved at a ritual with tears and laughter last weekend.

Personal obstacles to financial success were written onto slips of “spy” paper and thrown into water as women declared what they were dissolving. The ritual was lead by Luna Jaffe of the Sacred Money Studios at the Mindful Wealth Conference in Portland, Oregon. These women were yearning to transform their money situation, and something incredible happened. There was a visceral sense of levity many of us felt after sharing these burdens. A deep belonging that comes from sharing grief and celebrating our wishes.

Are you ready to feel the relief of abandoning your self-destructive money stories?

“Money-Wise Women” guest Hilary Hendershott is founder of a leading financial advisory firm for women and host of Profit Boss® Radio. She helps clients not only with traditional financial planning but also with what she calls the money operating system. These are the pervasive beliefs that influence our behaviors. She helps her clients to reprogram these unconscious beliefs and take corrective action.

Hillary was just getting started as a financial advisor in her family’s firm in 1999 during the height of the tech bubble. She was in Silicone Valley and learned a lot about how to build security, even in turbulent times. Hilary noticed she was a minority as a young woman in the financial field dominated by older men. She realized that many women felt more comfortable working with female financial planners.

Closing the age and gender gaps within the industry is increasingly important. Diversity and inclusion are hot topics throughout the business world, but the financial sector is dominated by old white men. In America, only 6% of certified financial planners are Black and 7% Latino, and since 2013 the percentage of females has held steady at 23%.

The masculine-dominant culture is changing as women are requesting female financial planners who care about their values and well-being, in addition to their money.

How will the transformation of beliefs about value build true wealth?

We can create resilience through greater financial intelligence. Talk about money. Be curious and begin with conversations about what is most valuable to you. This investment of talking about money really pays off.
